Welcome to St. Charles Episcopal Church.
Faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. --1 Corinthians 13:13
Do everything in love. --1 Corinthians 16:14
Life has changed dramatically for all of us here in the Fox River Valley, and indeed in all the world. The Covid-19 Coronavirus global pandemic has required all of us to pause and change the way we work, play, and mark the milestones of life. We have been blessed with technology that allows us to gather together remotely. It doesn’t fully satisfy the longing we have to break bread together, to comfort one another in our grief, and to celebrate graduations, weddings, births, and new beginnings of all kinds. And yet with the new challenges of 2020 there are new opportunities for spiritual growth.
At St. Charles Episcopal Church we are embracing the opportunity to know God by practicing faith, hope, and love while social distancing and staying at home to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 Coronavirus. It will be awhile before we get back to our building. Thanks be to God that “Church” is not defined by the building! Our church is defined by our people who rise to the challenge to do everything in love (1 Corinthians 16:14). People are hurting, lonely, and grieving. We are witnessing civil unrest due to the realities of deeply rooted institutional racism since the founding of our nation.
Now, more than ever, God is calling the Church to do everything in love. Let’s not wait for church buildings to be open and for everything to be back to “normal.” Let’s live faithfully now, gathered together in hope via our phones and laptops. Let us take every opportunity to be kind and loving in our daily lives. You are invited to join us as we follow the way of Jesus to bring love and healing to the world. At SCEC all are welcome without exception! We look forward to meeting you.
Our Rule of Life is how we live the Gospel daily:
Christ is the cornerstone of the church, and prayer is the foundation of our life together.
We come together in the celebration of Holy Eucharist on a regular basis.
We listen to one another with the compassionate heart of Christ, and ask questions for clarification.
We respect one another's stories by listening and keeping their confidence.
We strive to practice forgiveness as we have been forgiven through Jesus' death and resurrection.
We behave knowing God is in our midst.
We seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourselves.
We respect the dignity of every human being.
We actively build worship, education, service, and giving.
All are welcome in this place. The Episcopal Church welcomes you!
